CRAFTY!

RETAIL FAIRS - this is largely a public audience which can include art lovers and collectors.

TRADE FAIRS - the buyer is looking for what they can sell in their shop or gallery and where you sell your work at wholesale price.

Across the UK there has been a four fold increase in the volume of craft objects sold annually and it is thought that the total number of people buying craft is approximately 37.7 million. With craft sales reaching 3 billion in 2019.

There is a growing number of people visiting makers markets. The crafts Council reported that 34% of people buying these products prefer markets, festivals and small pop ups to traditional galleries or buying online.

Shows like The Repair shop and The Great Pottery Throwdown have partly been responsible for the current revival. Many Crafters generate almost 60% of their annual income in the run up to Christmas.

Makers markets can be held anywhere, Crafty Fox market holds events in unusual settings:

“We started hosting markets in a Brixton pub in 2010 and we’ve also sold at music festivals including Shambala and We Out Here,” Koehler says. “This year, we’ve worked with a number of cultural institutions, including a recent market in the foyer at the British Library.”

The crafts industry is continuing to build on this exciting revival, enjoying growth of approximately 5% year on year. But of course it is crucial to have the infrastructure to support the sector. Each venue will require a safe, secure, power source. One of the problems associated with holding successful outdoor events is finding an electricity supply. Ensuring that a constant power supply is maintained when and where it is necessary is a familiar issue for any events management team.

When holding an outdoor event, a secure power supply is vital. Pop Up Power supply retractable power units, which are proven to deliver both a constant and efficient power supply, wherever needed. Each unit can then be raised to provide a safe and secure power supply. For landscape conformity, each unit can have surface material, matching the surrounding area, inserted in the recessed cover so there is minimal visual impact on the overall area. This is an important consideration when the units are to be installed at historic and listed sites.

Staging an outdoor craft event in public is a great commercial activity for any local authority. Attracting more people to make use of public space, not only boosts the commercial viability of our town centres and market places, but it also helps to create a sense of community and well-being.

Pop Up Power Supplies® already offer a clever solution for many market areas throughout the UK and are currently used extensively.
