Providing an outdoor power infrastructure at West India Dock’s transformational Wood Wharf

In-ground power distribution units from UK company Pop Up Power Supplies have been specified to add functionality to outdoor spaces within the iWood Wharf development, a new London neighbourhood described as a hub for ‘the curious, the imaginative, and the challengers of convention’. Wood Wharf is the latest redevelopment in the huge transformation of the historic West India Docks in London. Once part of the world’s busiest port in the 1800’s, Wood Wharf now houses 120,000 office workers each and every day! The docks closed in 1980 but over the last 30 years the area has evolved into a large and hugely successful hub for finance, business and tech. The site has developed not only the business sector, but also for docklands life with extensive landscaping for arts and events and residential areas with facilities for entertainment and retail.

Pop Up Power Supplies played a part in the regeneration of this historic area with a contract to provide power distribution solutions to Swiftline Engineering. These facilitate arts, events and shopping kiosk areas within the wharf area. Bespoke units were selected to supply electricity, water and data points in public areas, with each unit able to be used and operated unattended thanks to a lid which can be securely locked down whilst in-use with only the cable protruding.

Pop Up Power supplied 11 x special build stainless steel flip lid units each with 1 x 63A isolator, plus 11 x special build stainless steel flip lid units each with 1 x 63A TPN IP67 socket and RJ45 data socket. These flip lid power units provide a secure, silent and efficient power supply for kiosks, stalls, shops and events equipment of all kinds. The in ground units are ideal for use in smaller spaces where a power supply is required. They have a double locking lid that can be raised manually which is recessed to fill with a matching surface for the surrounding area to provide a seamless and neat finish – helping to achieve Wood Wharf’s overall stylish and modern appearance and ensure it the developers create a thriving, sustainable and future ready environment.

Pop Up Power Supplies provides a range of in ground and retractable power units as well as bollards with electricity and water connection points. Such is their versatility that they are used in applications across the UK, including in public spaces ranging from historic sites, market places, town squares, parks, universities and sports stadia.

George Parker of PUPS, “Wood Wharf is an exciting project to be part of and represents another important part of the transformation of London’s docklands. Our in-ground units will provide a long-lasting, reliable and safe power distribution solution in the development’s superb outdoor public spaces for many years to come.”
