The challenge for Trusts and construction professionals lies in finding a way to provide a necessary power supply without compromising the aesthetics or integrity of the location. These sites often require electricity to power various amenities such as lighting, audio systems, and interactive displays
Traditional power sources such as petrol generators are impractical as not only as they are an eye-sore on the local landscape, they are noisy and pose various hazards to nearby pedestrians such as tripping or electrocution. Retractable power units are innovative solutions that allow for seamless electricity supply at heritage sites while remaining hidden or discreet. These units can be easily concealed when not in use, preserving the visual appeal and historical significance of the site. When needed, they can be effortlessly extended to provide power to the necessary areas.
The process of protecting such heritage sites includes restoration projects, where sites’ facilities are updated and upgraded to maintain the integrity of such a cultural or natural site. Having an outdoor power supply that is sensitive to a heritage site is essential to preserve its condition and status.
Pop Up Power Supplies Ltd® supply a range of retractable service units that provide a safe and secure outdoor power supply, and crucially are sensitive to the local surroundings.
HERITAGE SITES VIDEO
Our video illustrates the many benefits of hidden power supply units within the heritage sector - especially when considering a sites historic, aesthetic qualities.
Time: 2 minutes 12 seconds.

POP UP UNITS
There are numerous benefits when using retractable power units at heritage sites. Firstly, they allow for a flexible and adaptable power supply. As heritage sites often have changing needs and requirements, retractable power units can be easily adjusted or relocated as necessary. This ensures that the power supply can meet the site's evolving demands without causing any disruption or damage. This is an important consideration for architects and main contractors working on Heritage Sites..
Additionally, retractable power units offer enhanced safety and security. By keeping the power supply hidden, the risk of accidents or vandalism is significantly reduced. Visitors can freely explore the site without any obstructions or hazards, enhancing their overall experience and ensuring their well-being.
Our range of Pop Up power units are fully retractable. When they are needed, the units are raised out of the ground with a simple turning handle. And when they are not needed, they are simply lowered back into the ground. Our range of In-ground units feature a simple open-and-close mechanism where maintenance staff can access the power points via a lid. The power units can be operated with the lids locked down.

IN-GROUND UNITS
Another advantage of the Pop Up power units and In-ground power units is that their lids are recessed and can accommodate any infill surface material, whether it is stone, paving or grass. This means when the units are retracted, they blend seamlessly with the local environment, upholding the integrity and aesthetics of each site..
Pop Up Power Supplies Ltd® retractable service units also bring other functional benefits to heritage sites, notably an increase in safety. Traditional outdoor power supplies, such as power generators, are hazardous. Not only can visitors trip over long lengths of trailing power wires, but they also can get dangerously close to the generator, the source of the electricity. This poses a potential electrocution hazard.
Our In-ground units can be carefully positioned so they are able to power nearby outdoor stalls and kiosks easily, with the lid locked down. No trip hazard. No risk of electrocution to nearby visitors. The cables that protrude from the units are generally short as kiosks are placed near the power units, and are covered by cable protectors.
By designing and installing retractable power units within heritage sites we can preserve their historical value while still providing the necessary electricity for a memorable and immersive visitor experience.

As part of a restoration project, the Chiswick House and Gardens Trust contacted Pop Up Power Supplies® as they required an outdoor power source to be placed within the gardens.
It was important that the units would not permanently impact on the beautiful aesthetics of the gardens, while being able to provide a safe source of electricity for the outdoor events they hold throughout the year..
Our range of PUPS01 Pop Up power units were specified and installed throughout the gardens, providing 16A or 32A power supply in both single and three phase sockets, all with RCBO protection. The units were simple to install and only required light excavation in the form of a small digger.
Other palatial locations where our retractable service units have been installed include Hampton Court Palace and Woburn Abbey.
At Hampton Court Palace, PUPS02 Pop Up power units and PUP03 In-ground units were installed in the kitchen garden and PUPS Floorboxes were installed in the Tiltyard Function Room Garden. At Woburn Abbey, PUPS01 Pop Up plug sockets were installed.
OUR 3 MAIN POWER UNITS
Each outdoor power unit has its own key advantages and reason for specification, and can accommodate a range of electricity sockets and utilities.

POP UP UNITS
Pop Up units are a discreet, versatile, and retractable power unit that provide electricity, data points to a range of outside spaces, including heritage sites.
They can be raised when you need to use them and when they aren’t needed you simply lower the unit back into the ground using a simple lever.
The Pop Up electric sockets provide either a 16A or 32A power supply in both single and three phase plug sockets, all with RCBO protection.

IN-GROUND UNITS
Our In-ground units (IGU) provide a continuous source of outdoor power, a major benefit for specifiers and trust organisations is that our units can be operated while unattended. The lids can be locked down with the cables connected to nearby stalls. They also provide a safe and secure power source for town centres, market days, or busy outdoor spaces within commercial retail parks.
Because only the power cables protrude out of the unit, these can be managed easily for pedestrians with cable guards. Compared with outdoor power generators where there is a risk of electrocution and a trip hazard for pedestrians.
There are six models to choose from in the In-ground units collection – Slim IGU, PUPS 03, PUPS Floorbox, PUPS02 4040, PUPS02 5050, and the PUPS02 7050.
