Many town centres are being re-developed by their respective councils in an attempt to drive local shoppers back to the high street to favour local, independent retailers and cafes. Here, market days, craft and food festivals, charity fundraisers and more events are held to re-engage communities and encourage shoppers to visit.
Part of such town centre re-generation projects include designing and specifying an outdoor electricity supply to power such events.

COVENT GARDEN,

Six of our retractable service power units were installed in the Piazza at Covent Garden. The Covent Garden Technical Services Team needed a arrange outdoor power sockets for temporary stalls and events that are put on throughout the year. The solution was our Pop Up Units which are located near to the Transport Museum and next to the Portico of St Paul’s Church in the Piazza.
The 450kg units are buried out of site beneath the famous cobbled piazza and are raised out of the ground when required by a turning handle. When not in use the units do not impact on the historic appearance of the Piazza as the lids were infilled with the cobbled surface material. The Covent Garden Services team staff now has access to a combination of 16A and 32A sockets in both single and three phase all with RCBO protection.
Pop Up Power® also supply electricity through In-Ground Units with flip lids and Power Bollards in a variety of designs to suit the surroundings.
STAMFORD,
LINCOLNSHIRE
Council Planners in Stamford required a power source for outdoor stalls on market days, to replace all the unsightly power generators that were used to power the stalls.
Pop Up Power Supplies® were contacted, and after an initial consultation our range of In-Ground Power Units were specified. The power units provide a range of outdoor power sockets for the market day stalls and can be operated with the lids locked down. This prevents any public access which helps to keep nearby pedestrians safe.
Our In-gound Power Units were chosen as they have a very limited impact on the town’s beautiful aesthetics. The covers of the IGUs are recessed so matching paving can be installed on top, therefore able to adapt to any environment. They are also tested unfilled to FACTA Class B loadings.
GRAVESHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL, KENT
Pop Up Power Supplies® were approached by council planners at Gravesham in Kent, to provide an outdoor power supply for an area outside the local civic centre.
The area outside the civic centre in Gravesham is a popular venue for various outdoor festivals and other local events, there was a requirement for an outdoor power supply to provide electricity for various stalls and activities. Traditional power generators were unsightly, provided a tripping and electrocution hazard for nearby pedestrians. They were also noisy for stall holders. They needed an alternative power source that was safer and kinder to stall holders and nearby pedestrians.
Our range of Power Bollards were chosen which provided a safe, secure and silent outdoor power supply. Specified in a Button Top Supply Bollard with hatch closure, the slim bollards are all located around the perimeter area next to walls, and as a result have a limited impact on the outdoor space. The bollards provide a reliable, secure outdoor power supply, and are totally encased. The council planners at Gravesham Borough Council were pleased with the power bollards provided by Pop Up Power Supplies® as they provided a stylish and practical power supply for the area outside their civic centre. The bollards are also elegant in design and complement the surrounding environment with their sleek aesthetics.
Our range of Power Bollards are constructed using AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, and you have the option of a mirrored finish, powder painted RAL colours or custom paint finishes.
In addition to the Button Top styled bollards used in Gravesham, they are also available in three other configurations – Parc Paris, Domed, and Sloping Top.
