They provide electricity for a range of outdoor events and facilities, such as powering stalls in town centre market days, kiosks in university open days, food stalls in shopping centres, and outdoor events in green spaces within city centres.
Traditional power sources such as petrol generators can be used, however these can be loud and disruptive for nearby pedestrians. They can pose tripping and electrocution hazards. A better solution that is increasingly favourable among architects, urban planners, contractors, and local councils, is the range of outdoor power units supplied by Pop Up Power Supplies Ltd®.
We are pleased to supply a range of retractable, versatile, and discreet power units. These power units can either be raised from the ground and lowered back again when not in use, or can be operated while submerged in the ground with the lids locked.
There are three main power units in our range:
Each outdoor power unit has its own key advantages and reason for specification, and can accommodate a range of electricity sockets and utilities.

POP UP POWER UNITS – DISCREET AND VERSATILE
Pop Up power units, or Retractable service units, are fully retractable units that provide power or data for the built environment. They are a popular choice among architects, urban planners and local councils, due to their versatile nature.
When there is a local market event and many stalls occupy a concentrated area within an urban space, you can simply raise the Pop Up Power Units (using a separate handle which is supplied with the unit). Once raised, stall holders can plug into the power sockets available, all of which either are a 16A or 32A power supply in both single and three phase plug sockets. All sockets also have RCBO protection which protects electrical equipment from earth leakage or over current.
When the market has finished and all of the stalls go, you simply lower the Pop Up power unit back into the ground, where the top of the unit will fit flush with the ground. The lids can be infilled with the surface material, so when the units are lowered they fit seamlessly into the local environment.
INSTALL: EXETER UNIVERSITY
Developers and architects working on Exeter University designed the communal space outside their Forum building with a range of our PUPS01 Pop Up power units. It is the central hub of their Streatham Campus. The quad area houses various open days and student events throughout the year, and now the University benefits from a power unit that provides a safe and secure power source. When it is not needed, it is simply lowered back into the ground.
The power units were designed with the paving infill that was used in the communal outdoor area, meaning when lowered into the ground the units appear seamless to the campus communal space. The pop up units provide a 125A power supply in both single and three phase plug sockets, all with RCBO protection..

IN-GROUND UNITS - CONTINUOUS POWER WHILE LOCKED AWAY
One of the biggest advantages of our In-ground power units is that they can be operated with the lid locked down. Because of this, users can benefit from an outdoor power source and then can leave their market stall, confident in the fact their power source is safely locked away. The power sockets are safely located within the steel unit, so only the power cables protrude out of the unit and can be managed easily for pedestrians with cable guards. The flip lid nature of the units means the power sockets are easily accessible for users. They are opened and closed using hydraulics meaning it is a smooth process.
Because of the highly functional and safe nature of the In-ground units, they are a popular choice for specifiers of outdoor power units for built up locations. Architects, contractors, and urban planners specify In-ground units for outdoor areas in place of traditional petrol generators. As the lids can be locked down safely, securing the power sockets inside, there is very minimal risk of electrocution or trip hazards. The only protruding feature is the power cable, which can be safely managed using cable guards.
There are six models to choose from in the In-ground units collection – Slim IGU, PUPS 03, PUPS Floorbox, PUPS02 4040, PUPS02 5050, and the PUPS02 7050.
INSTALL: STAMFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE
Our In-ground power units were installed in public areas in the town of Stamford, Lincolnshire, for their market events they hold on a weekly basis. Manufactured in high grade mild steel and hot dipped galvanised to BS EN:ISO1461. Each unit is tested infilled to FACTA Class B loadings. The cover of each unit was neatly recessed and therefore accommodated the exact paving surrounding the power supply. Council Planners were pleased with the power units as not only did they benefit from a safe source of outdoor electricity for the local market stalls, but there was minimal impact on the integrity and beauty of the local area.

POWER BOLLARDS - CONTINUOUS POWER WHILE LOCKED AWAY
Our Power Bollards provide a safe and reliable outdoor power supply in elegant street furniture format. They are a favourite among local councils, architects, and urban planners due to their aesthetics and practical benefits for built up areas. Not only do market stalls benefit from a safe and secure power source, the elegant street furniture structures enhance a local area.
Power Bollards are available in several configurations for your specification.
Three standard diameters - 250mm, 325mm, and 500mm.
Four styles – parc paris top, domed top, sloping top, and button top.
Each stainless steel bollard can provide between 220 and 400 volts and 125A of power, and available with configurations to suit client’s needs, plus additional equipment is available.
Power Bollards are safe and secure. Users have the ability to lock the doors/latches on each bollard, thus preventing any access to the power sockets in high footfall areas.
INSTALL: GRAVESHAM, KENT
Our Power Bollards were installed outside the local civic centre in Gravesham, Kent. It is a popular venue for various outdoor festivals and other events. There was a requirement for an outdoor power supply to power various stalls and activities. Specified in a button top Supply Bollard with hatch closure, the slim bollards are located around the perimeter area next to walls, and as a result have a limited impact on the outdoor area.
