Outdoor public spaces are being asked to do more than provide electricity.
Markets, events, marinas, transport hubs and commercial precincts all increasingly need power alongside data and audio-visual connections to be delivered from a single, unobtrusive point. Where multiple services are required, the temptation and the norm is often to install multiple separate units, each with its own footprint, its own cabling run and its own compromise on the appearance of the space.
The consequences are familiar to anyone managing a well-used public or commercial site. Surface-mounted junction boxes, exposed cables running between service points, and infrastructure that looks and feels temporary and messy even when it's been there for years. In locations with a genuine mix of service needs, from energy to telecoms, the lack of a proper multi-service solution leaves site managers patching together fixes that were never designed to work efficiently as a system.
The PUPS04 offers a permanent, considered alternative. A retractable power tower, model PUPS04 for the distribution of energy and other services, made with press-bent AISI 304 stainless steel, painted RAL 1021 with two sides available for mounting electrical equipment. Raised manually by lifting hook and lock into its working position. Operational lifting weight is less than 15 kg. Complete with RBK concrete containment chamber external dimensions 490 x 490 x h830mm. This unit can be made with AISI 316L stainless steel on request.
Inside, the electrical equipment containment box carries IP66 protection to IEC 60529 and CE70-1 double insulation, built from a halogen-free, self-extinguishing thermoplastic material resistant to abnormal heat and fire up to 650°C, verified by the incandescent wire test to IEC 60695-2-1. Elastomer sealing gaskets maintain dimensional stability across a continuous operating range of -20°C to +85°C, with resistance to water, saline solutions, acids, bases, oils and atmospheric agents, meeting CEI 23-48 and IEC 60670. The system is built to the standard required for manufacturing environments and higher fire-risk locations under IEC 64-8/7.8/7).
The unit runs on a standard 3 metre H07RN-F cable tail, connected to incoming supply via an underground polymer torpedo joint, and supports 230V/400V at 50-60Hz, with socket protection to IP67 in line with EN 60947-1 and EN 61439. Beyond power, the PUPS04 can be specified with RJ data, video and telephone jacks, and even energy consumption meters, making it a genuine single-point solution for mixed-service sites. Covers are available in either a 40 tonne stainless steel finish with an almond texture, or a 25 tonne stainless steel option, depending on the load requirements of the installation.
For estate managers, facilities teams and public realm designers handling sites with multi layered service demands, the PUPS04 removes the need for multiple separate installations. Discrete, durable and built to genuine industrial standards, it delivers power and connectivity from a single retractable point, without compromising the safety or appearance of the space around it.
