Serious Outdoor Power, Completely Out of Sight
Outdoor public spaces such as town centre squares and pedestrianised streets to parks, heritage sites and waterfront locations are expected to work harder than ever. Markets, festivals, food and drink events, seasonal attractions and community gatherings have become a regular feature of how these spaces are activated and enjoyed. The infrastructure needed to support them, however, is rarely given the same careful consideration as the events themselves. The consequences are familiar. Generators rumbling away behind temporary barriers, surface cables running across paving and grass, distribution boards positioned wherever there happens to be a convenient wall. These are not just eyesores. They are genuine safety risks in environments with high footfall, unpredictable weather and the full range of people that a well-used public space attracts. For local authorities and estate managers responsible for both the appearance and the safety of these locations, the status quo is increasingly difficult to justify. The PUPS01 offers a permanent, considered alternative. Installed below ground within a robust RBK concrete box, the unit remains completely flush with the surrounding surface when not in use. When power is required, it is raised manually via a worm screw system operated by a turning handle — or using a standard electric drill with the appropriate accessory. A semi-automatic lifting option using gas rams and a release key is also available on demand. When the event is over, the unit retracts and the space is returned to its original condition.
Constructed from AISI304 stainless steel, the PUPS01 provides two sides for mounting electrical equipment, offering significant flexibility in socket and service configuration. Operating across 230V and 400V supplies at frequencies from 50hz to 60hz, with IP67 rated sockets and compliance with EN 60947-1 and EN 61439, the unit is engineered for demanding outdoor conditions. The electrical containment box carries IP66 protection and is manufactured from double-insulated, halogen-free thermoplastic material, with full resistance to water, saline solutions, acids and atmospheric agents.
Beyond standard power distribution, the PUPS01 can be specified with compressed air outlets, audio and video connectors, RJ data, video and telephone jacks, and energy consumption meters making it genuinely multi-functional for the full range of activities a busy public space is likely to host.Cover options reflect the variety of settings in which the unit is deployed. A D400 cast iron EN 124 cover suits the most demanding applications, whilst a D400 cast iron EN 124 infill cover offers a discreet alternative. For a cleaner finish, stainless steel covers are available in both 400kN with almond finish and 250kN infill options, allowing the unit to blend seamlessly into the surrounding surface, whether that is a town centre pavement, a heritage courtyard or a landscaped park.
For local authorities, estate managers and public realm designers, the PUPS01 eliminates the need for repeated temporary electrical installations at each event. Fixed, managed and discreet, it provides a long-term solution that supports the full range of outdoor activity whilst preserving the character and accessibility of the space itself.Pop Up Power Supplies® provides dependable outdoor power solutions for public spaces across the UK.
