HELPING OUR HERITAGE!

1 Apr 2025

Here in the UK we boast many historic and heritage sites, spanning 6 millennia. Our historic places include palaces, and castles, roman forts, industrial sites and even deserted mediaeval villages. Caring for these sites is an ongoing task, conservation is key if we are to preserve these special sites for future generations.

People are increasingly wishing to learn about history through a visit or an experience. Reading about history is interesting but actually standing where history took place is something else!.

Many of our heritage sites wish to offer a hands-on experience that brings history to life, engaging visitors is essential.

The key to bringing a historic site to life is the safe provision of electricity to these outdoor spaces in a way that is not detrimental to the aesthetic appeal of a heritage building. Access to power is essential for staging the kind of outdoor activities that draw in visitors, such as craft fairs, Easter hunts, educational events and family fun. In addition, power is also required for maintenance tools and machinery, as and when this is required outside of the public view.

The balance between practicality and aesthetics is easily achievable through the range of fully retractable and In-Ground power units available from Pop Up Power Supplies®. These are designed on the principle that they are ‘there when you need them and hidden when you don’t’.

When power is required, the Pop Up Units are raised out of the ground with a simple turning handle. After use, they can be lowered back into the ground.

The Pop Up Power Supplies® range of In-Ground units feature a simple open-and-close mechanism where maintenance personnel and events staff can access the power points with ease.

The units provide the scope for heritage sites to host any type of event that can function providing a dependable power source for lighting, sound systems, signage, refrigerators, etc. is available.

This affords venues the creative freedom to consider a comprehensive events programme throughout the year that could result in a valuable income stream, capitalising on the summer tourist season and key periods including Christmas, Easter and Halloween.

The In-Ground power units can be operated with the lids locked down, and the lids for both solutions are also recessed to accommodate any infill surface material, whether it is stone, paving or grass. When retracted, this ensures that units blend seamlessly with the local environment, upholding the integrity and aesthetics of heritage sites.

Using Pop Up Power can unlock the potential of a film studio in many different ways. For example, if you have a large, mostly unused land area, installing power distribution units can enable the space to be used to provide a film setting or an outdoor filming area. An electricity supply for lighting, machinery, and hospitality will be readily available.

There are three main units in the range – pop up units, power bollards and in-ground, all of which provide a range of durable outdoor power. Each unit is available with a range of configurations, as well as bespoke in-ground power units or pop up units with recessed tops that can accommodate different forms of surface material such as paving, grass and any other surface required.

All Pop Up Power Units are all manufactured to order so can be configured to suit the exact requirements of the site. That could be to specify a certain number of power sockets or adding other services such as a telecoms line. All the units supplied by Pop Up Power Supplies are manufactured to the highest standards using high quality materials including stainless steel to provide a robust solution over a long service life.

Pop Up Power works closely with architects, contractors, business owners, council planners, and other professionals, to ensure the successful specification of power units and project success every time.
